Please remember to check out our calendar art! Orders need to be returned to the office next term. Check out the information that the children brought home in their reading folders this week.

Learning Celebration

It was lovely seeing many of you during our Learning Celebration on Friday. We hope you enjoyed checking out other classrooms and seeing our learning communities throughout the school. We know the children enjoyed having the opportunity to perform for you in the hall.

Woolston Firefighters visit the Verandah

On Friday we were lucky enough to have the Woolston Firefighters visit Opawa School! They were very impressed with the fabulous Firewise learning that we had already been doing; ka pai verandah! The children were amazing and practised how to "Get Low and Get Out". We even had a turn with the hose. Thank you to the Woolston Crew!

Get Firewise

This week we have been learning about how to 'Get Firewise' during our inquiry time. We have discussed how matches/lighters are "tools not toys" and ways to stay safe around fires, heaters, barbecues and in the kitchen. Today we learnt what to do when a fire alarm goes off at home or at school. You need to 1. get out FAST 2. say "FIRE, FIRE, FIRE" 3. shut the door (if you can safely) 4. go to your safe meeting place. The children all took home a sticker in their reading folders today. It would be great if you can discuss as a family your safe meeting place and add the sticker to this spot. It may be your mailbox or gate. We were very proud of Room 2/3 today and can't wait to share our learning with the firefighters tomorrow!

Fit-a-thon

We had a great time completing the Fit-a-thon on Monday this week. All of the children in Rm 2/3 participated and completed step ups, star jumps, ski jumps, shuttle runs, skipping and burpees. Awesome effort everyone!
